Here's where you can find and get your customized
"Big Reidee"
First, I'll tell you the story of how it all began...
I've fished offshore for over 30 years now.
Born and raised in Hawaii. If you're into fishing and live in Hawaii, you use a variety of lures and you start making your
own. Nobody buys lure heads on a regular basis in Hawaii. I don't know why that is... but it just "IS".
I had found
a lure head that worked great on ahi about 20 years ago and decided to use it as a "model" so that I didn't have to go hunting
all over the fishing stores over here to find it. I also did not want to copy the exact design of the lure that I was going
to use, so I made changes to the original in hopes of improving it by using smaller tubing for the jets, making my own lead
insert shape, and extending the skirt "steps". I knew this was a good shape and wanted to make it heavier for targeting the
ahi (yellowfin tuna) that makes us Hawaiian guys crazy.
Its common knowledge that the ahi likes heavier, non-radical
running lures and coupled with the smaller jets, I figured that the "sound" would go farther in the water by using smaller
tubing and likewise attract the ahi. If you dive, you'll know what I mean about sound really travelling underwater...
I
started making "Big Reidee" about 7 years ago in honor of my just born son and only child. At about the same time, I started
going on the internet and started looking at any fishing sites that I could find just to share the fishing experience that
makes us so passionate about our sport.
Making the Big Reidee is an infrequent hobby for me and I try to impart my
"mana" or "spirit" into each and every one.
