Big Reidee is a real work of art that catches fish like no other. B.R. catches the heck out of bigger tuna, dorado and the wahoo love it. Try a green / yellow top with rainbow color under skirt with pearl head for the tuna. Rig it with 20' of 300 lb. mono leader (no windon swivel close to the lure) with a single 10/0 #7691S. Fish them long or behind your bars as the chase baits. These baits track straight with a big bubble trail. Easy for the fish to see and catch, even way back in the pattern where the bigger tuna like them best.

I have a "few lures" now and BR is on the treasured list. I actually have a pack of them now. A few years ago now a controversial charachter name of Joe Singer told me about this lure... the rest is history or 1066 as we say here in England. I took some to Cabo San Lucas where they were viewed initially with the normal suspicion one would expect from a died in the wool Mexican cappy. Now it is his favourite all `round fish catcher and a few have gone to Davey Jones along the way attached to a veritable who's who of denizens of the deep. I congratulate Ron and he knows how Capt. Efren and I hold his Ace in the hole lure in high esteem.

The Big Reidee is a little gem, a custom Hawaiian work of art plunger with jets, which catches 'em all from a master of his craft Ron Akana.
Trust me, you need some of these........

Big Reidee, They're beautiful and DEADLY, DEADLY, DEADLY! To others they may be beautiful, which they are, but I know more. They are downright deadly fish killers of the first order!

I GUARANTEE YOU, SOME HUGE CABO WAHOO ARE GONNA DIE ON THESE - MAYBE EVEN THE ONE!

Ron Akana! You ain't no lure guru, you are a lure GOD! I wish I were in The Captain's Roost right now. Exactly now! Madly rigging the hell out of these gorgeous creations and explaining to them that they would face the fire and teeth tomorrow morning, but how I was rigging them to survive the sacrificial horrors that they were going to face. I would tell them, "You are my children now and we are all three on a mission from Ron-God", that I will be putting them in harm's way, but not to worry because they would be coming back. And if they needed new dresses they would have them posthaste and in any color and style that they wanted.

Then tomorrow, it is just starting to get light when I climb up the tower and turn Archer on the right course to cut the very tip of the point, where the bottom literally dives from ten to five hundred fathoms. The tide is changing right now and though I can't see them, I can hear the birds feeding.

The seven hundred horses are now boosting the boat to ten to eleven knots. I turn my back to the bow as they cross the point of the drop. Pow!! The flatline clip goes off like a thirty-eight and the big reel starts screaming in seeming agony over what the fish is doing to it. The long rigger clip follows and now both virgins are in the hands of devil sea priests who cannot release their grips on their victims.

I then turn my face to the sky and howl, "For you, my friend...
Hoooooka, hooooka, hoooka!!!"

Somewhere on The Volcanic Isles a lure god turns in his sleep and smiles.

And so it shall be.

I call Ron my Hawaiian son, he is on my mind, and in my heart each day, as is the Hawaii I love so much. Ron carries on with his cottage craftmanship that many Hawaiians toiled with before him, the lures, the style, the love, Amen, my dear friend.

Only people who own a Big Reidee and have fished a Big Reidee can really understand what is all about... What makes the Big Reidee so good is the man behind it, Ron himself... he sets his standards way up and every lure he makes must be perfect to be called a Big Reidee.

Of course the important part of a lure is to catch fish... but does it hurts to be beautifully perfect and still out-fish the rest of the lures in your spread???

I have never experienced the joy from a fishing lure as I did when I received my (first, so far) Big Reidee.
I have Ron and Reid to thank for that.

Mr. Akana isn't a commercial luremaker but a true home craftsman, as such no time or effort is too much for him to create a work of art that meets the high standards he sets himself. The limited quantities they are made in, ensure that the Big Reidee is not found in catalogues, only "word of mouth" like all the very finest art is.

The shape is a smallish plunger with heavy lead weight and four jets, the angle is personally cut by Ron himself. It is a true customized lure that to me represents the very finest in traditional Hawaiian hand lure craftsmanship, every step of crafting is individually undertaken by Ron himself, from the jet insert to final polishing and cutting. From the fishing point of view, the small size, weight and jets, make it a killer all around, on the long riggers for Tuna or small to medium billfish or down the center as a stinger with Blue Marlin lures out.

I don't hesitate to praise Mr. Akana's lures because I mould baits myself and realize how difficult it is to get that good, both in terms of how the lure is crafted and how artistically it is arranged (insert, eyes, tinted top). First time I saw one and that must be now at least four years ago, I wondered how I'd ever get that good. I'm still trying.

I'll say this about the Big Reidee...

One of the nice things about running Southern California Marlin Online (www.marlinnut.com) is that I get sent a lot of lures to try - some established brands, some new ones trying to break into a tough market. I get a chance to check them out first hand and make comparisons.

To me, a Big Reidee is a work of art. The fact that they catch fish is almost secondary. I've only run mine a couple of times, out of fear of damaging/losing it. Now, that's a lot like the guys who buy an expensive sports car and then keep it on jacks in the garage, so I'm trying to break myself of the habit. But it's a measure of the artistry and talent that goes into each lure.

I have literally hundreds of lures from all over the world, and I wouldn't trade any for my Big Reidee ...

My Big Reidee is unquestionably a work of art. However I would just like to add that Ron is also a class A kinda guy and he allows you to participate in the making of your Big Reidee (skirts, shadings & etc) which makes it a trully customized lure, one you inherently feel proud of because in a way you pitched in (even if only with the easy part).

By the way, Ron also managed to make it in record time since the original delivery scheduled was abruptly changed... and still, he delivered and the quality was in no way compromised.

Go get em!
